Cross Country teams battle the elements at Ben Davis Invitational

The Western Boone Cross Country team traveled to Ben Davis Saturday morning to compete with 19 other teams in the 59th annual Ben Davis Invitational. The boys were first to run and the morning started with heavy rain, making for a wet and muddy course. Isaac Threlkeld led the Stars and finished in 99th place out of 162 runners in 19:11. Carter Hanna followed and finished in 106th place in 19:31. Alex Crockett 19:33 (107th), Graham Cavins 20:48 (141st), Brayden Schick 21:11 (148th), Brawn Puckett 21:54 (153rd), and Kole Nelson 26:12 all finished strong. A highlight of the boys race was a lifetime best time for Brayden Schick. The lady Stars were led by Charlotte Stucky coming in 47th place out of 138 runners with a time of 22:10. Samantha Jones followed in 51st place in 22:24. Benny Parsons 23:04 (69th), Kate Higer 24:27 (103rd), Janelle Gearheart 25:54 (117th), Rosie Rogers 27:11 (124th), Carli Hanna 28:31 (132nd), and Katherine Mateika 30:05 (136th) ran hard to complete this race. The girls team finished 11th overall out of 20 teams. The Stars will travel to Lebanon next Thursday to compete in the Tiger Cross Country Invitational.
