The Western Boone Cross Country team traveled to North Central High School for their Sectional competition Saturday morning. The Stars were faced with tough competition, cold rain, and a muddy course but rose to the challenge for a strong race. Alex Crockett came out with confidence, leading the boys team and finishing in 19:04. Isaac Threlkeld was next, finishing in 19:28, followed by Graham Cavins (20:57). Brayden Schick had a great race finishing in 21:27, followed by Lane Hardee (22:27). Kole Nelson finished his season with a personal best time of 23:33, showing true grit as the only freshman on the team with consistent improvement throughout the season. Alex Crockett and Isaac Threlkeld both qualified for the Regionals next Saturday, which ended a four year drought for the boy's team. Bailey Haag led the Lady Stars and finished with a time of 21:35, coming very close to her personal best time. Samantha Jones had a great race finishing with a time of 21:57, followed by a determined and consistent Charlotte Stucky (22:27). Kate Higer was the next Star to cross the finish line to get a new personal best with a time of 22:58. Benny Parsons finished strong with a time of 23:22, followed by Janelle Gearheart who snagged a season best time of 25:21, and Rosie Rogers who persevered to get a time of 26:30. Bailey Haag, Samantha Jones, Charlotte Stucky, Kate Higer, and Benny Parsons all qualified for Regionals. The girls team finished 7th overall out of 10 complete teams. Despite not having a race for the last two weeks, both teams remained focused to run at their best times of the season even in some of the worst conditions for racing.
