The 8th grade Stars football team defeated rival Lebanon by a score of 12-6 in a thriller. Once again facing adversity & a diminishing roster, the Stars, only 12 strong were able to execute a game plan of taking care of the ball, winning time of possession and allowing the defense to go to work. Ultimately, it would be the defense coming up with the winning play. The first half saw the Stars able to move the ball on offense but unable to finish drives. The defense would hold solid, shutting out the Tigers in the first half as well, by ending the final threat of the half with an interception by Alex Velazquez. After a great kick off by Evan Kiplinger and tremendous coverage to start the second half, the Stars were able to trap the tigers inside of their own 10 to start the drive. After a three and out and solid punt return by Quinn Westerfeld, the Stars were able to capitalize on the great field position and complete just a one play drive for a rushing touchdown, also by Westerfeld (conversion failed). The Tigers were finally able to counter late in the third quarter to score (conversion failed) and tie the game at 6-6. The Western Boone offense was able to once again move the ball but unable to run out the clock and play for overtime and was forced to punt with just under a minute to play. Lebanon decided to try to play for the win in regulation which lead to the play of the night. On 2nd and 10 with just 30 seconds remaining, Brennen Bivens was able to secure a tipped pass and return it 30 yards for the game securing touchdown. Every player on the field for the Stars made a solid contribution or big play in some facet of the game to help secure the win. The Stars (1-1) will be back in action as they host the Athenians next Tuesday. The 7th Grade Stars defeated the Lebanon Tigers by a score of 30-12. Levi Adkins & Noah Cole ran wild against the Tigers thanks to the blocking up front by Aiden Farrell, Brayden Henson, Sam Rausch, Micah Farris, and Maddox Amich. Carson Nicley connected on a pass to Josiah Williamson for a TD. Defensively Destin Carabello, Dane Allen, Jackson Bloss, and Nicley broke up several Tiger pass attempts with Carabello intercepting the Tiger QB and Amich recovering a fumble in the Tiger backfield. The 7th grade Stars move to 2-0 and will host Crawfordsville on Tuesday. Kickoff is set for 5:30. Photo compliments of Amanda Mathews.
