The Western Boone girls’ soccer defeated Cascade with a 2-1 game on Tuesday, August 23. WeBo girls came out with a strong, competitive intensity to start the game and scored within the first 5 minutes of the first half with a through ball from KaLeigh Steimel (#12, senior) to Addie Jones (#6, junior), when the goalie was out of position. Jones chipped the ball over the goalie’s head to put WeBo ahead 1-0. The team’s intensity stayed consistent through the entire first half, and they never gave up. At the start of the second half, both teams came out ready to challenge the ball and to create intense competition for one another. Cascade worked through our defensive line and caught them out of position to put the ball in the lower left net to tie the game 1-1 with 37:12 left to play in the half. WeBo counterattacked together to work the ball quickly up the field, again with a ball from KaLeigh Steimel to Aizlinn Baxter (#26, senior) who powered the ball into the net to get ahead 2-1 with 36:23 left to play in the game. The Lady Star’s maintained their composure throughout the game and challenged one another on the field to play competitively together. The result of this game ultimately shows the value in playing as a team, not as an individual.
