Star swimmers begin season against Crawfordsville

The varsity swim teams had their first joint meet of the season Tuesday night against Crawfordsville. Both teams fell to the Athenians; the girls finished with a score of 120-62, and the boys finished with a score of 113-66. The 200-yard medley relay team of Jenna Twitty, Arianna Stieber, Kaitlyn Crowley, and Annabelle Mickschl kicked off the meet for the girls with a second-place finish. Samantha Jones finished third in a close 200-yard freestyle race, followed by Crowley in fourth. Hannah Hayden earned a third-place finish in the 200 IM. In the 50 freestyle, Adelaide Jones finished third, Lily Talbott finished fourth, and Adalyn Sartin placed sixth. Cara Hanna placed third in diving for the Stars. Twitty and Hayden earned second and third places respectively in the 100-yard butterfly; Mickschl also placed fifth. A. Jones earned the Stars’ first win of the evening in the 100 freestyle, with S. Jones following in a close third place finish. Crowley and Rebecca Rustin finished third and fifth in the 500-yard freestyle. The 200 freestyle relay team of Stieber, Hayden, S. Jones, and A. Jones placed second, followed in third by the Webo team of Sartin, Rustin, Mickschl, and Twitty. Stieber followed with a second win for the Stars in the 100 backstroke; Twitty also finished fifth in the race. Talbott and Rustin placed fourth and fifth respectively in the 100-yard breaststroke. Finishing up the meet with a close race was the 400 freestyle relay team of Hayden, S. Jones, A. Jones, and Stieber, earning a second-place finish. The team of Sartin, Rustin, Talbott, and Crowley also placed fourth. The boys kicked off the meet with a second-place finish from the medley relay team of Jacob Norman, Jude Balke, Isaac Threlkeld, and Chase Collier. The team of Ethan Barnett, Alex Crockett, Malachi Catterson, and Artie Milliser also finished in fourth. Norman earned the Stars a win in the first individual event of the evening, followed by Wyatt Barnett and Collier in fifth and sixth in the 200 freestyle. Balke and Catterson placed fourth and fifth respectively in the 200 IM. Threlkeld earned another win for the Stars in the 50 freestyle, followed by Sam Hillger in fourth and Isaac Garringer in sixth. Xander Rouse finished second in diving for the Stars. Catterson earned fourth place in the 100-yard butterfly. Threlkeld narrowly missed a win in the 100-yard freestyle, followed in third by E. Barnett and in sixth by Milliser. W. Barnett finished in third in the 500 freestyle; Collier and Henry Biggs finished in fourth and sixth respectively. The Stars relay team of Norman, Collier, W. Barnett, and Threlkeld earned another win in the 200 free relay. The team of Hillger, Biggs, Milliser, and Crockett also placed fifth in the relay. Norman earned another win for the Stars in the 100 backstroke, followed in second by E. Barnett. Balke finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke, and Crockett placed fifth. Ending the meet with a second-place finish was the 400 free relay team of Catterson, W. Barnett, E. Barnett, and Balke. The team of Milliser, Biggs, Hillger, and Garringer also finished in fifth.
