On Thursday, the Western Boone Wrestling team traveled to Frankfort for the first dual meet of the season. Western Boone was victorious, defeating the Hotdogs by a score of 54-24. Webo won 8 of 11 contested matches in the varsity competition. The evening started off with Josh Dickey receiving a forfeit at heavyweight. The Stars then rattled off three consecutive first period pins from Cale Scagnoli (106), Isaac Moore (113), and Jacob Anderson (120). At 126lbs, Nate Moore, made his wrestling debut, but unfortunately was unable to secure a victory, losing via first period fall. Frankfort got another score, when Isaiah Garland suffered a hard-fought loss at 132 pounds. Western Boone got bounced back when Trey Fuston (138) won by first period pin. Kameron Mikesell (144) was next, getting the fastest victory of the evening. Kameron needed a mere 24 seconds to dispatch his opponent. At 150lbs, Mason Adams, didn’t need much longer, winning by pin in 41 seconds. Drew Williams (157) gained some valuable experience in his match, but regrettably came up short with a first period loss. In a never-say-die, moment, Heath Williams (165) showed great tenacity. Trailing by six points after two periods, Heath managed to turn his opponent and secure a pin in the third period. At 175lbs, David Puckett, received a forfeit. There was a double forfeit at 190lbs after Jacob Smith agreed to go up in weight and wrestle Frankfort’s 215lbs athlete. Jacob wrestled aggressively but was unable to recover after getting caught in a difficult position midway through the first period. Cale Scagnoli, Nate Moore, and Drew Williams competed in their first career varsity matches. Congratulations to Cale for earning his first career varsity win! In the lone exhibition match, Aden Conner (138) started off strong and scored a lot of points in the first two periods. However, he was unable to hold onto the lead and lost via pin after battling for nearly six full minutes. The wrestlers have little time to enjoy their victory as they will be back in action at home on Saturday, December 2nd, when the eight teams of the Sagamore Conference gather at Western Boone to compete in multiple dual meets. The action will start at 8:30am and last until the early afternoon.
