Western Boone Wrestling Hosts Webo Duals

On Saturday, December 2, 2023, the wrestling teams for each of the schools in the Sagamore Conference came to Western Boone to compete in five dual meets. Competition was tough this year and the team walked away with a 2-3 record on the day. Two wrestlers, Cale Scagnoli (106) and Kameron Mikesell (144) went undefeated for the day. In the first dual meet, Western Boone faced off against the Lebanon Tigers. Both squads earned some hard-fought victories, but in the end, the Tigers came out on top 27-45. David Puckett (175) wrestled particularly well and picked up his first varsity win of his career with a 9-6 victory over an experienced opponent. Additional winners for the Stars were Cale Scagnoli, Jacob Anderson, Kameron Mikesell, and Joshua Dickey. Next, the Stars took on the Southmont Mounties. Western Boone won nine of the 13 contested matchups and walked away with a solid 50-24 victory. The meet was highlighted by Drew Williams (157) picking up his first career varsity win by pinning his opponent in the first period. Additional winners for Western Boone were Cale Scagnoli, Isaac Moore (113), Isaiah Garland (132) Mikesell, Heath Williams (165), Puckett, Jacob Smith (190), Joshua Dickey (285). The third contest of the day was another victory for Western Boone. The grapplers defeated a much-improved team from Danville, 48-27. Eight of Webo’s nine victories came via fall. Jacob Smith showed a lot of tenacity in a particularly hard-fought 8-7 victory over his opponent. Cale Scagnoli showed he is truly a force to be reckoned with when he tied the school record for the fastest pin. Scagnoli needed a mere 9 seconds to pin his opponent. Additional winners for the Stars were Isaac Moore, Isaiah Garland, Kameron Mikesell, Mason Adams (150), Heath Williams, David Puckett, Jacob Smith, and Joshua Dickey. After a short break for lunch, wrestling resumed against another very improved team from Crawfordsville. The Stars battled but were unable to overcome the Athenians, losing 30-46. Cale Scagnoli, Isaac Moore, Kameron Mikesell, Mason Adams, Drew Williams, and Jacob Smith were all winners for Western Boone The final dual meet of the day was another wild clash between the Stars and the Chargers of North Montgomery. Trey Fuston (138) and David Puckett both wrestled extremely hard, but each suffered close, hard-fought losses. Cale Scagnoli, Kameron Mikesell, Mason Adams, and Joshua Dickey were the lone victors for Western Boone. The wrestling team will travel to the nest of the Golden Eagles of Guerin Catholic on December 5, 2023, for their next competition. Wrestling starts at 6:00pm.
