DOVER - Western Boone's girls soccer team has been looking to share the wealth with their offense this year. They showed that Saturday morning against North Montgomery. KaLeigh Steimel had four goals, two others got their first goals of the year, and eight different players had a shot on goal during the Lady Stars 7-2 win. "It was a good day for us and we were able to spread it around the team," Western Boone head coach Shane Steimel said. "We had contributions from several girls scoring today, and really shared the ball well. I think we had a balanced approach in holding one of the best players in the area in check the best you can. The girls battled for 50/50 balls, and we had a strategy we wanted to use and it worked." The seven goals was the most the Stars have scored in a regular season game since 2017. WeBo scored less than two minutes into the game when KaLeigh Steimel after getting past a couple of defenders. Just five minutes later, the Stars doubled the lead when Carlie Pennington scored on a Steimel assist to make it 2-0. North Montgomery immediately responded, with Teegan Bacon scoring to make it 2-1 a little more than a minute after Pennington's goal, but the Stars got their two-goal lead back two minutes later on a North Montgomery own goal. Steimel scored off a corner with 24:57 left in the opening half to make it 4-1, then completed her hat trick with 6:22 remaining in the half to make it 5-1. "We have a lot of kids that are offensive minded, who just haven't gotten it in the back of the net so far this season," Steimel said. "I really feel like we are more offensively balanced this year than we have been and I think that's going to start showing." North Montgomery got a goal back early in the second half, when Bacon converted a penalty kick just minutes into the second half. But Bacon, one of the top goal-scoring threats in the conference, was limited on her impact thanks to solid WeBo defense throughout the game. "A lot of credit to Becca Keyes and Ki'erra Koch in the center back positions," Steimel said. "Emily Conyer did a nice job too dropping back and little bit. We knew it wasn't going to be a single individual that's going to keep her under wraps. But our defense is coming around and did a good job." Steimel scored her fourth goal with 32 minutes remaining, before Rebecca Rustin capped the scoring with a goal late in the game. Rustin is part of a large freshmen class that has come in this year and are making impacts on the field. "That goal was Rebecca Rustin, and we have Kylee Trent and Ellie Whiteley getting quality minutes throughout the game," Steimel said. "Cora Somers came in and got some good minutes, and it is really nice to see some of our younger players getting some sport opportunities and earning more time." The Stars have a light schedule next week, just hosting Sheridan Thursday. Steimel said the Stars are getting better, and are coming together as a team. Now he wants to start seeing more efforts like Saturday every game. "This can help us moving forward," Steimel said. "We have to have our 'A' game against some of these top teams and really it isn't about who we play, it's making sure we play our game. I feel like whenever we have success, that encourages kids to buy in to making the extra run or getting in the right position, because they see how it can play out."
