On December 9, 2023, the Western Boone Wrestling team traveled to Columbus North High School to compete. The Stars got the opportunity to see some good competition over the course of five dual meets. The team ended the day with two wins and three losses. Both Kameron Mikesell and Jacob Smith went undefeated for the day. Trey Fuston and Cale Scagnoli each won four matches and lost only one. Isaac El-Shahat, Isaac Moore, David Puckett, and Drew Williams each won three matches and lost two. The first meet of the day was against the Cougars of Bloomington North. Both teams seemed to be evenly matched, but the Stars were unable to pull off the victory, losing 33-47. David Puckett (175) continued his tenacious ways, earning a hard fought, come-from-behind victory, defeating his opponent 5-2. Also winning for the Stars were Kameron Mikesell (150), Jacob Smith (190), Cale Scagnoli (106), Isaac Moore (113), and Trey Fuston (138). The grapplers then got rocked by the Westfield Shamrocks. Kameron Mikesell and Jacob Smith were the lone victors in the meet, both pinning their opponents. The final score of the meet was 12-68. In the third match, the Stars earned a dominate victory over Brown County, 72-12. Isaac El-Shahat (285) earned his first career varsity win with a first period pin over his opponent. The fourth match of the day was against a familiar foe, the Golden Eagles from Guerin Catholic. The Stars improved on their earlier victory against the Eagles, this time winning 72-6. Isaac Moore continued his quick fall ways, when both he and Trey Fuston needed just 40 seconds to pin their opponents. Other winners for Webo were David Puckett, Jacob Smith, Isaac El-Shahat, Cale Scagnoli, Jacob Anderson, Isaiah Garland, Kameron Mikesell, Drew Williams, and Heath Williams. In the final match of the day, the Stars came up just short, losing to Madison Consolidated 30-40. Other winners for Wester Boone were Jacob Smith, Isaac El-Shahat, Cale Scagnoli, Trey Fuston, and Kameron Mikesell. The Stars have no time to rest, as they are back in action Monday (12/11/2023) when they host Tri-West for youth night. Wrestling starts at 6:00pm.
