The Western Boone boys tennis team bounced back after a tough week by going 2-1 in their own tournament today. The Stars began the day by taking down the Lawrence Central Bears 5-0. The team followed up an opening win with an early season rematch where the Stars fell 1-4 to the Covington Trojans. The Stars showed much improvement, but still dropped the match to the eventual champion Trojans 2-3. The Stars earned a huge win a 1S where Gavin Hawkins beat Evan Norton in straight sets. The 2nd win came from the 2D tandem of Tyler Konz and Andrew Petro. The final match of the day paired the Stars with the Southmont Mounties. The Mounties defeated the Stars earlier in the week 0-5, but the Stars earned their revenge this afternoon with a 3-2 win. Freshman Jon Rutherford secured the win at 3S with a straight set victory. Also winning for the Stars were both doubles tandems of Daniel Talbott/Garrett Prickett and the aforementioned 2D tandem of Konz and Petro. The Stars are back in action Tuesday, when they host the Frankfort Hot Dogs.
