Western Boone Jr. - Sr. High School

It was a good showing for Kameron Mikesell and the Western Boone wrestling team at the Spartan Classic at Connersville. Mikesell won the title at 144 pounds at the annual big winter tournament, helping the Stars place ninth as a team. Mikesell started the tournament off with a pin of Beech Grove’s Guerin Boshears. He then pinned Gavin McFarland of Richmond in the quarterfinals and topped New Palestine’s Bryce Doss to reach the final. In the final, he controlled Bishop Chatard’s Gabriel McNamee, coming away with a 4-0 win and the title. At 150 pounds, Mason Adams placed second. Adams pinned Connersville’s Aric Fox, Jasper’s Blayne Powers and Purdue Poly’s Mitchel Wheeler to reach the final. In the final, he held a lead through most of the first two periods against East Noble’s Rylee Biddle, but ultimately fell by an 8-4 decision. Also placing for Western Boone was Cale Scagnoli at 106 pounds. He placed sixth. He topped Charlestown’s J.C. Lowery and Valparaiso’s Dom Natale to reach the quarterfinals, where he lost to Nolan Mullins of Jasper. Scagnoli got two-straight pins in the consolations to enter the placement matches, but lost his last two to place sixth. At 113 pounds, Isaac Moore went 1-2. At 120 pounds, Jacob Anderson went 2-2. At 126 pounds, Nate Moore went 0-2, at 132 pounds Isaiah Garland went 0-2. At 138 pounds, Trey Fuston went 2-2. Drew Williams went 0-2 at 157 pounds, with Heath Williams going 1-2 at 165 pounds. David Puckett picked up a pair of wins at 175 pounds, going 2-2 for the tournament. Jacob Smith went 1-2 at 190 pounds. Josh Dickey had three-straight pins in the first period at to reach the quarterfinals at 285 and finished 3-2 for the tournament. Isaac El-Shahat went 0-2 at 285 pounds.
