Cross Country competes in the Leap Into September Invitational

The Western Boone high school cross country team competed at the Leap Into September Invitational at Southmont on Tuesday evening. Competing against eight other teams, the Lady Stars earned second place with 43 points behind first-place Lebanon with 33. Katheryn Rutherford led the way for the team with a 3rd-place finish in a time of 21:54.1. Hannah Haag and Samantha Jones also earned top-ten finishes: Haag in 5th in 22:21.3, and Jones in 9th in 23:54.5. Bailey Haag was next for the Lady Stars in 11th, followed by Emily Parsons in 16th. Charlotte Stucky (38th) and Kate Higer (39th) rounded out the varsity squad. Also running for the Lady Stars were Janelle Gearheart (41st), Rosie Rogers (46th), Bailey Keyes (48th), Carli Hanna (56th), and Katherine Mateika (57th). In the boys race, the Stars were seventh with 192 points out of eight teams. Lebanon won with 35 points. Isaac Threlkeld was the Stars' top finisher in 23rd in 20:34.9. Graham Cavins ran well to finish 33rd in 21:31.2. Lane Hardee finished 55th, followed by Brawn Puckett in 67th and Carter Hanna in 69th. Brayden Schick (73rd) and Alex Crockett (74th) rounded out the varsity squad. Also running for the Stars were Jude Balke (75th) and Xander Rouse (79th). The Stars will race at the Landes Invitational at Hamilton Heights on Thursday.
