The 6th grade girls basketball team traveled to Clinton Praire last night and came home with a 27-15 win. The stars shook off some first game jitters and struggled offensively in the first half but played good defense going into half with the lead. The stars were able to get some offense going in the second half to come away with the win. Ady Nicley lead in scoring with 17 points. Molly Rausch had 6 points and several rebounds. Ella Oakley and Harper Nance each added 2 points along with several steals. The B team played hard but fell short losing 14-2. The stars struggled to get things going offensively but showed improvement throughout the game. Cora Reagan scored the teams 2 points with a fast break layup. The 7th and 8th grade girls’ basketball teams dropped two on Monday night with both teams falling to the Southmont Mounties. The 7th grade game was a physical battle from the beginning, but the Lady Stars struggled on the boards and defensive transition giving the Mounties several uncontested looks at the basket early. The girls fought for 24-minutes, struggling to find much of a rhythm on offense, and the Mounties early lead became too much to overcome; the Stars lost 14-34. The team was led in scoring by Caydence Paris with 9, Lyla Kinsler with 3 and Kinsley Blankenship with 2. The Lady Stars 8th grade team also ran into a tough Southmont opponent. The Mounties defensive pressure and presence on the offensive glass hurt the Stars early. The team fought for all four quarters but ended with a 11-49 loss. The girls were led in scoring by Vivyan Haltom with 5, Kaelynn Grant added 4, and Raina Lutz ended the game with 2. The 7th and 8th grade girl’s teams are back in action tonight, 1/30/24, at Western Boone Vs. Tri-West.
