The Lady Stars cleaned up their play within the first 10 minutes of the game and quickly adapted to the style of play and speed of Sheridan’s team. With great resiliency and mental toughness in the heat, the ladies finished the week making their home match record 3-0. With a goal from Sheridan nearly halfway through the first half, the Stars picked up their intensity both physically and mentally. Senior Aizlinn Baxter really set into motion the play making and combinations on the field to lead the Stars to attack with speed and strength, resulting in 2 goals for the Stars within 6 minutes of each other towards the end of the first half. Sheridan had an own goal with an assist from Webo senior Kayleigh Steimel with nearly 17 minutes left in the first half, while Sophomore Kale Connor had a speedy breakaway against the defense and practically went 1 on 1 with the goal, creating a 2-1 lead with 12 minutes in the half. Webo really showed out in all areas of play during the game, but our defensive tenacity has been such a stronghold for us. Between our back 4 defensive players and our midfield defensive assistance, we make it incredibly difficult for teams to match up and get the ball in the net. Freshmen Rebecca Rustin, Cora Somers, Lindsey Steimel, Kylee Trent, and Ellie Whiteley have all really stepped up to the plate and merged their skill with the upperclassmen on the field. The entire team as a whole has really come a long way on finding their groove together on the field and using their talents as one unit, not as 23 different individuals. For coaches Shane Steimel and Mallory Galloway, this has been one of the most encouraging things to watch from the sidelines. The team is eager to get themselves rested and rejuvenated over the next few days to take on the Lebanon Tigers next week on Lebanon’s territory. Come support them Tuesday at 5:30pm!
