Cross Country teams traveled to Terre Haute over the weekend

The Western Boone high school cross country team competed at The Hometown Savings Bank Invitational on Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute. The Stars' boys team started the day, competing in the Class 1A-3A race. Isaac Threlkeld ran well in the field of 141 runners and turned in a 27th-place finish in a time of 19:53.4. Next for the Stars was Carter Hanna in 39th in 20:27.8. Luke LaGrange ran an excellent race to finish 46th in 20:50.4, just 5 seconds away from his personal best. Lane Hardee, 54th in 21:00.0, and Graham Cavins, 74th in 22:06.5, rounded out the scoring team. Also running for the Stars were Levi LaGrange (94th), Brayden Schick (111th), Brawn Puckett (115th), Alex Crockett (116th), and Xander Rouse (119th). As a team, the boys placed 8th with 208 points out of 14 complete teams. The Lady Stars ran in the big-school race and achieved a respectable 7th-place team finish with 190 points out of 14 complete teams. Valparaiso, ranked #12 in the state, won with 40 points. Hannah Haag led the way for the Lady Stars with a 15th-place finish in 21:18.0. Katheryn Rutherford also earned a top-20 finish in the field of 145 runners, placing 18th in 21:28.1. Bailey Haag was next for the Lady Stars in 58th in 22:56.9, followed a few seconds later by Samantha Jones in 64th in 23:07.2. Charlotte Stucky achieved a personal best time of 23:12.3 to place 69th and complete the scoring team. Four other Lady Stars earned personal bests: Janelle Gearheart, 26:19.4 in 118th; Kate Higer, 27:00.2 in 122nd; Cara Hanna, 28:33.1 in 130th; and Rosie Rogers, 29:15.5 in 134th. Other runners representing Western Boone were Emily Parsons (128th), Bailey Keyes (137th), and Carli Hanna (142nd). The Stars will compete in the Charger Classic at North Montgomery on Thursday.
