Coming into Tuesday night's match-up at Lebanon High School, the Western Boone girls soccer team hadn't beaten Lebanon since 2015. But despite it not being their best performance of the 2022 season, the Lady Stars defeated the Tigers 2-0. They played incredibly hard despite some irritating moments both within our own team and against thd opponents aggression. And although they didn’t connect passes as we had hoped they would, they still played smart and improved throughout the game on challenging for the ball. The Stars took a 1-0 lead early in the game when KaLeigh Steimel (senior) scored on a long-range shot from nearly 25 yards out with less than 30 minutes to play in the first half. Both teams had other chances on goal in those remaining thirty minutes of the first half, including a cross bar shot by Kale Conner (sophomore) and a breakaway by KaLeigh Steimel, but the half ended 1-0. The Stars went into the second half with more intensity and drive. They played decent soccer for majority of the second half and our defense did a great job holding up and playing their position. With Coach Steimel’s smart subbing movements with our midfield and defense, we created more opportunities. One of which resulted in Emily Conyer (senior) crossing a ball into the box assisting Aizlinn Baxter (senior) to a beautiful follow-up goal. With 26 minutes left in the game, Western Boone doubled their lead to 2-0. The Lady stars are on a three-win streak, with a record of 4-2 and a conference record of 2-2. They take on Danville for their next game on Thursday away at 5:30, where they are looking to up both of those records by one.
