The Jr. High Softball A team picked up their first win of the season on the road with a 6-1 victory over the Lebanon Tigers on Wednesday evening. The Stars battled the rain all evening, but the new turf field at Lebanon came through and the games were played. Raina Lutz was dominate on the pitchers mound in the first game striking out 11 in 5 innings, giving up 1 run with 1 walk. For the batters she didn’t set down herself, Lutz had some help on the defensive end with a couple of outstanding plays in field. Ashlynn Foster came up big in the bottom of the 4th with runners in scoring position as she ended a potential rally with a web gym worthy sliding catch in the left center gap shattering the Tigers hopes for a big inning. As a team the Stars scored 6 runs on 6 hits. Raina Lutz helped herself at the plate leading the group with two hits. Ashlynn Foster, Caydence Paris, Mady Monks, and Lexi Gregg each had a hit of their own. The win evens up their early season record at 1-1. The Jr. High Softball B team fell in a close one, losing the battle 7-8 in their second game of the season. Both teams struggled from the pitchers mound fighting the rainy conditions playing the later game and soaked field. The Stars had a chance in the final inning with the bases loaded, but just were not able to come up with the hits at the right time. The team ended with seven runs on two hits but displayed their discipline at the plate picking up 12 walks to keep the base paths occupied all game. Hadlie Horn and Shawna Hitch both had a hit each to lead the team offensively. The Jr. High Girls Softball team will by back in action Thursday, 4/11, at home hosting Danville for their home season opener.
