The Western Boone high school cross country team competed at the Charger Classic at North Montgomery on Thursday evening.

In the girls varsity race, Katheryn Rutherford and Hannah Haag ran near one another for most of the race, and they finished 5th and 6th, respectively, in 21:03.2 and 21:12.8. Bailey Haag ran strongly to finish 14th in a season-best 22:32.3. Emily Parsons was next for the team in 18th in 23:18.3, followed by Samantha Jones in 24th in 23:50.4. Charlotte Stucky, 32nd in 24:22.5, and Janelle Gearheart, 52nd in 27:07.6, rounded out the varsity squad. A total of 73 girls ran in the varsity race. The Lady Stars were 2nd with 62 points out of 10 complete teams and 13 total teams. Lebanon won with 43 points. In the boys varsity race, Isaac Threlkeld led the Stars with a 26th place finish and achieved a personal best time of 19:08.4. Carter Hanna ran strongly to finish 38th in 19:55.1, followed a couple seconds later by Lane Hardee in 41st in 19:57.6; both times were season bests. Luke LaGrange earned a personal best of 20:18.4 to finish 48th. Graham Cavins was the team's final scorer 53rd in 20:49.2. Levi LaGrange, 58th in 21:50.4, and Brawn Puckett, 71st in 23:39.9, rounded out the varsity squad. A total of 78 boys ran in the varsity race. The Stars were 7th with 198 points out of 11 complete teams and 13 total teams. Lebanon won with 46 points. In the JV race, the Lady Stars shined with a first-place team finish. Kate Higer led the way for the girls in 3rd and achieved a personal best time of 26:39.6. Rosie Rogers also earned a personal best, cutting more than a minute and a half off of her previous best to finish in 27:41.9 in 5th. Bailey Keyes achieved a top-10 finish as well, placing 8th in 28:26.7. Carli Hanna also earned a personal best, finishing in 30:03.3 in 13th. Her sister Cara Hanna rounded out the scoring team in 16th in 31:36.9. Katherine Mateika was 21st in 38:08.5. Three Western Boone boys competed in the JV race. Brayden Schick was the Stars' first finisher in 23rd in 22:56.7, and Alex Crockett followed just a few seconds later in 24th in 23:04.6. Xander Rouse was 37th in 28:17.8. The Stars will run at the Ben Davis XC Invitational on Saturday.
