The Boys Varsity Golf Team participated in a tough field for their first varsity invitational of the young season Saturday morning, playing at Twin Bridges in an event hosted by the Danville Warriors. All five Stars golfers were making their first varsity starts ever at an 18-hole, varsity level invite. Evan Terwiske, 92, had a strong debut, followed closely by Jaice Butler's 96. Luke LaGrange, Maddex Gadbury and Ben Fortner were all able to survive rocky starts, settle in, and finish the day on a positive note. The total team score came in at 394. The JV team was able to send 11 players to the Covington Early Bird at Rivercrest Golf Club to compete in an 18-hole, team best ball, match play event. Six Western Boone golfers competed in their first competitive golf match ever, while the returning players looked to lay the groundwork to begin competing at a higher level. Each group faced tough pairings against varsity teams and sought to just use the day as an introduction to, and learning opportunity, in how to compete in golf at the high school level. The pairing of Carver Bragg and Cole Ramsey saw the most success for the Stars for the day. The Stars Varsity and JV will be away for two events this week and the varsity will wrap things up in Crawfordsville on Saturday for their next invitational.
