The senior class of the Western Boone volleyball team has helped the program reach new heights. So on a night that they got honored before the match, they made sure to take care of business against Crawfordsville. The Stars topped the Athenians 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-21) to improve to 19-6 and 5-0 in the Sagamore Conference. The seniors - Elena Gubera, Chloe Gillan, Kendal Ramey, Katherine Aliff, Kennedy Kiger, Saige Terwiske and Audrey Dunn - have been key pieces throughout all four years in high school. They have amassed a record of 89-33 so far, with two conference titles and a run to the state championship game a year ago. Up a couple of points early, Western Boone used a 9-0 run to go up 17-6 and never allowed Crawfordsville any closer than six the rest of the set. Western Boone won six of the first seven points in the second set and built the lead to 18-6 before cruising to the win. The third set was tied at 13 and the Stars led just 18-17 before pulling away to close the third set. It was the second-straight match where the Stars were pushed the hardest in the third set. Raegan Durbin had 14 kills and nine digs for the Stars. Kiger had 10 kills, with Terwiske and Dunn adding six each. Gubera had 15 digs, eight assists and three aces, with Gillan adding 12 digs. Janie Ransom had 30 assists and 10 digs. Western Boone travels to North Montgomery Thursday, then travel to Tri-West Tuesday in what will be a defacto conference championship match.
