LEBANON – The Western Boone tennis season came to an end on Wednesday, falling 5-0 to Zionsville. At No. 1 singles, Will Cramer topped Gavin Hawkins 6-0, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, Sebastian Lisiak topped Brady Warmoth 6-0, 6-0 and at No. 3 singles, Jose DeAndrade topped Jon Rutherford 6-0, 6-0. At No. 1 doubles, Jonah Everson and Cole Herrman topped Tyler Konz and Andrew Petro 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2 doubles, Evan Kolman and Sam Rushton defeated Daniel Talbott and Garrett Prickett 6-0, 6-0. “This group was one of the silliest groups that I have had, and it was very difficult to get them unhinged,” Western Boone head coach Dustin Cunningham said. “They were pretty unflappable. We knew what we were going to get every single day that we came out. They worked hard, and the bright spot is we bring back six of the seven and hopefully they put in the work in the off-season.” The Stars lose Talbott to graduation, but return the rest of the squad next year. “We have to work on getting better, it’s not good enough just to have a racquet in your hand and playing,” Cunningham said. “We have to go out with a purpose. We have until the end of the state tournament to do stuff, so we will have some open courts this fall and then hopefully we will get them back into it this summer. But every time we go out, where it is playing someone or drilling, we have to have a purpose and a goal to get better. Then when the season starts, it’s tweaks and not getting back in the swing of things.” Will Willems is the Sports Editor of the Lebanon Reporter. Follow him on Twitter @Will_Willems.
