Cross Country teams competed at Conference Championships

The Western Boone H.S. cross country team competed at the Sagamore Conference Championships at Southmont on Saturday morning. In the girls race, Katheryn Rutherford ran a smart race, moved up throughout the race, and made a dramatic move into 3rd place near the end to finish in 20:57.7. Samantha Jones ran an excellent race with lots of confidence and finished 6th in a season-best time of 21:58.2. Bailey Haag fought hard and hung on for 12th in 22:52.2. Rutherford, Jones, and Haag all earned First Team All-Conference honors for their efforts. Charlotte Stucky was 15th in 23:22.2, and Janelle Gearheart achieved a personal best of 24:26.1 to finish 21st and round out the scoring team. Emily Parsons was 23rd in 24:55.6. Stucky, Gearheart, and Parsons all earned Second Team All-Conference honors for their efforts. An injured Hannah Haag finished 38th. A trio of Lady Stars achieved personal best times: Kate Higer with 25:25.9, Cara Hanna with 26:39.2, and Bailey Keyes with 26:59.2. Also running for the team were Rosie Rogers, Carli Hanna, and Katherine Mateika. Lebanon won the girls' team competition with 31 points, followed by Western Boone in 2nd with 55 points. In the boys race, Isaac Threlkeld and Carter Hanna led the way for the Stars, rounded the final corner together, and sprinted to the finish line. Threlkeld finished in 19:23.4 in 30th, and Hanna achieved a personal best of 19:27.6 to finish 31st. Graham Cavins was next for the team in 40th in 20:27.1, and Luke LaGrange was 46th in 21:18.3. Brayden Schick earned a personal best of 21:55.5 to finish 51st. Levi LaGrange had a strong kick at the finish and was 54th in 23:12.5. Several Western Boone boys earned personal best times: Alex Crockett with 22:00.6, Xander Rouse with 23:18.7, and Jude Balke with 24:52.3. Brawn Puckett achieved a season-best of 22:29.7. Lebanon won the boys' team competition with 43 points; Western Boone was 8th with 198 points. The Stars will run at the IHSAA Sectional meet next Saturday in Noblesville.
