The Western Boone 8th grade football team defeated the visiting Crawfordsville Athenians last night by a final score of 28-16. The Stars offense had a breakout performance, scoring on their first play from scrimmage and never looking back. The Stars would amass over 300 yards on the ground on the night, led by Noah Baird’s 250 yards & three touchdowns. The offensive line of Tim Boddicker, Beau Sanders, TJ Goss, Rawly Woodrum, Ben Pemberton & Kane Jackson dominated the trenches and executed the Stars blocking schemes with precision. Klayton Mikesell, Colton Mitchell & Corbyn Wilt also contributed significantly by blocking their positions, turning solid gains into long break aways, play after play. Adding to the yardage and/or scoring total were Colton Mitchell, Charlie Jones & Tyson Riner. Riner was able to study the Athenian defense and get the Stars into the right play all night from his quarterback position. Defensively, the Stars saw a collective effort highlighted by Jones’ big plays in the backfield and a late interception by Lane Rose. The front three rotation of Brooklyn Wagner, Zach Ford, Cole Hurliman and Aerik Ranney kept the Crawfordsville backs in check all night. It was a night where the Stars could look up and down their roster and find key contributions from everyone in one phase of the game or another. The Stars will look to build on their performance when they visit Tri-West next week.
