The Lady Stars started out their season hosting the West Lafayette Red Devils. The Stars came out strong, playing a solid first quarter and a half of the game. Late first half fouling put the Stars in trouble, going into halftime down 17-30. The team did their best to regroup at halftime, but the Red Devils' defensive pressure and trapping proved to be too much for the Stars, putting them down 24-49 going into the fourth quarter. The Lady Stars fought back and battled hard in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Red Devils 18-11. The Stars dominated the boards throughout the game, outrebounding the Red Devils 48-30. Unfortunately, the Lady Stars could not make up for the large point deficit, falling short in the end by a score of 42-60. The team was led in scoring by Emmy Roys with 16 points and 14 rebounds, followed by Carlie Pennington 8 points and 6 rebounds and Katheryn Rutherford with 7 points and 12 rebounds. The Lady Stars are back in action on Tuesday at Rossville. The JV Girls Basketball team hosted the Red Devils from West Lafayette Saturday afternoon for their season opener. After a rough start and trailing 4 to 10 in the first quarter, the Lady Stars quickly turned the game around with solid defense ending the half up 19 to 14. The composure and momentum carried over into the second half with the Stars adding another 17 points winning the game 36 to 26. This was a great effort from every player on this young team and was a direct reflection of their hard work in preparing for this season.
