On Thursday, the Western Boone Wrestling team hosted the Frankfort Hotdogs in the Stars’ season opener. Western Boone won in a dominate fashion, defeating the Hotdogs by a score of 60-18. Webo won 9 of 11 contested matches in the varsity competition. Trey Fuston (132) started the evening off with a second period pin. Kameron Mikesell (138) then received a forfeit. Mason Adams (145), Evan Trent (152), Andrew Manthey (160), and Trevor Weakley (170) each pinned their opponents in the first period. Ethan Williams (182) picked up another victory for the Stars with a second period pin. Frankfort was finally able to get on the scoreboard when they received a forfeit in the 195lbs weight class. Neither team sent a wrestler out to the mat at 220lbs. The Stars then got back on track with back to back first period pins by Joshua Dickey (285) and Isaac Moore (106). Jacob Anderson (113) and Isaiah Garland (120) ran into some tough competition and despite hard fought matches by both, they succumbed to their opponents by fall in the third period. Ben Fortner then ended the varsity competition with a pin of his own in the 126lbs weight class. This was the first career varsity matches for Jacob Anderson, Isaiah Garland, Ben Fortner, and Andrew Manthey. Congratulations to Fortner and Manthey for picking up their first career varsity wins! At the conclusion of the varsity meet, five exhibition matches took place. Lincoln Rose (120) and Aden Conner (132) both participated in their first wrestling matches ever. Rose outlasted his opponent in a high scoring shootout, 18-13. Conner showed a lot of promise and fought hard, but unfortunately he came up short, losing by pin in the second period. Jacob Smith (160) needed just 21 seconds to get the fastest pin of the evening. Heath Williams (170) and Isaac El-Shahat (285) wrapped up the evening by wrestling tough, but regrettably both lost by pin. The wrestlers have little time to enjoy their victory as they will be back in action at home on Saturday, December 3rd, when the eight teams of the Sagamore Conference gather at Western Boone to compete in multiple dual meets. The action will start at 8:30am and last until the early afternoon.
