On December 29 and 30, the varsity wrestling team traveled to Connersville to participate in the annual Spartan Classic tournament. The tournament consisted of 32 schools with wrestlers competing individually in the 14 weight classes. The Stars improved upon last year’s 18th place and managed to place 10th overall as a team. Five wrestlers, Kameron Mikesell (132), Mason Adams (145), Evan Trent (152), Trevor Weakley (170), and Ethan Williams (182) wrestled well enough to make it to the second day of competition. Kameron Mikesell won four matches and lost three over the course of two days. He ended up with a 6th place finish. Evan Trent won four matches and lost two. Trent was able to capture fourth place. Mason Adams and Trevor Weakley both made it to the championship match. Adams faced a familiar foe from New Castle, Brevan Thrine. The two had wrestled each other two weeks ago at New Castle, with Thrine winning that match-up via a second period pin. This time, Adams improved on his performance, but still came up short, losing by decision 2-8. Weakley faced a tough opponent from Greenfield Central, Clay Guenin. Weakley battled fiercely but succumbed to a late pin at the end of the third period. The wrestling team will travel to Zionsville on January 7, 2022 to compete in the Fendley Hall of Fame. Wrestling will start at 9:00am.
