Stars fall short to Gophers of Clinton Prairie in girls basketball

The Lady Stars matched up against Clinton Prairie on Saturday, falling short of the Gophers by a score of 44-52. The Stars came out focused and ready to compete, but quickly struggled to handle the Gophers' press and defensive intensity, forcing many turnovers for the Lady Stars. The Stars picked up their defensive aggressiveness in the second quarter, holding the Gophers to only 7 points. The Stars had good looks at the basket in the first half, but couldn't finish their layups and jump shots, causing them to go into halftime down 16-24. The team regrouped and refocused at halftime, executing better offensively and outscoring the Gophers in the third quarter. The Lady Stars made a great effort to catch up to Clinton Prairie in the final minutes of the game, but couldn't overcome the deficit in the end. Emmy Roys finished with a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds, along with Katheryn Rutherford who ended with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Ila Stokes also contributed 10 points for the Stars. The Lady Stars are back in action on Tuesday night as they host Crawfordsville. Go Stars! The JV Lady Stars hosted Clinton Prairie for their first game after the holiday break on Saturday. Despite great defensive pressure and many shot opportunities, the Stars trailed at the half 9 to 10. But in the second half the shots started to fall while the defense stayed strong leading them for the win 33 to 21. It was a true effort from the entire team on both ends of the court.
