On Tuesday, January 10, 2023, the Western Boone wrestling team traveled to Rockville, Indiana to take on the Parke Heritage Wolves. The Stars dominated the meet, winning all but one of the varsity matches. All of WeBo’s victories came with bonus points. The final score was 76-6. The wrestling team improved to 14 wins and 10 losses for the year. The evening started off with an exhibition match. Braedyn Mathews (170) needed just 17 seconds to pick up a win by pin. Varsity action then kicked off at the 160lbs weight class, with Jacob Smith receiving a forfeit. At 170lbs, Trevor Weakley won with a 29-second pin over his opponent. Next, Ethan Williams (182) put together a solid performance, proving he can go the distance with his opponent and picked up a major decision (13-5). At 195lbs, Jayden Williamson made his varsity debut. Williamson agreed to wrestle up a weight class and fought hard, but ultimately succumbed to a third period pin. Wyatt Dickey (220) and Joshua Dickey (285) kicked off what would ultimately prove to be an 11 match win streak, with each picking up first period victories. Isaac Moore (106) received a forfeit to add six more points to the team score. Jacob Anderson (113) and Isaiah Garland (120) then each won by first-period pins. In the 126 pound weight class, Lincoln Rose needed a mere 16 seconds to pick up his first ever varsity win. Congratulations Lincoln! Aden Conner (132) then received a forfeit, followed by a Trey Fuston (138) pin in less than one minute. Mason Adams (145) then stepped up and recorded the fastest victory of the season so far with a 12-second pin over his opponent. Evan Trent (152) ended the varsity competition with a dominating victory over his opponent, ending in a second period pin. The evening concluded with two more exhibition matches. Heath Williams came ready to battle, but was unfortunately defeated by a first period pin. Jayden Williamson then took on his second opponent of the evening and put together a nice match, culminating in a second period pin. The wrestling team will spend the rest of the week preparing for the Sagamore Conference tournament on Saturday, January 14, 2023. The tournament will be held at North Montgomery High School. Wrestling will begin at 9:00am.
