JH Stars battled Mounties in two close contests

The Western Boone Boys 7th Grade basketball found themselves in a battle last night as they hosted the Southmont Mounties. The Stars took the lead early but the Mounties came back to tie it at half. The Stars came out in the second half and once again took the lead but missed shots and turnovers the Mounties were able to come back and tie it to go to overtime. Overtime was back and forth but tied again sending us to double overtime. The Stars had a 2 point lead with :04 seconds to go in double overtime when the Mounties banked in a last second 3 pointer to win the game 40-39 and give the Stars a heartbreaking loss. Leading in scoring for Western Boone was Levi Adkins followed by Carter Eckert and Carson Nicley. The Stars B team came out ready to play and dominated the Mounties from the start. Defense lead the way resulting in fast break opportunities. The Stars also controlled the boards, resulting in a 18-2 win. The Stars travelled to Southmont to take on the Mounties. The Stars got off to a off slow start and had to fight their way back. Mounties had the lead going into the half 18-10. The second half the Stars out played and scored the Mounties in the 3rd to take the lead 21-20. Teams played even in the 4th, but the Mounties took the win at the foul line. The Stars fell 31-28. Owen Oakley led the Stars with 16, Quinn Westerfeld 8 and Burke Cavins 4. The Stars B team played shorthanded but gave a solid effort. The Stars played strong but just ran out of gas. The Stars fell 33-22. Levi Jackson led the Stars with 7, Jackson Jones 6, Jacob Riner 4 and had led the team in rebounds. Nate Thompson 3 and Reese Young 2. Stars finish regular season at Lebanon next Tuesday.
