The Western Boone Wrestling team hosted future conference opponents from Greencastle High School on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. The Stars had little trouble in defeating the Tiger Cubs, winning 59-12. The meet started out competitively. At 138lbs, Trey Fuston lost a close match, 4-6. Lincoln Rose (144) gave the lead back to the Stars when he pinned his opponent in the waning seconds of the first period. The Tiger Cubs then won an overtime match against Destin Caraballo Mercado (150) to tie the team score at six points each. Western Boone regained the lead after a second period pin by Kameron Mikesell (157). The Stars didn’t look back, earning decisive victories in the next four matches. Broden Wilson (165) defeated his opponent via technical fall in the second period. David Puckett (175), Heath Williams (190), and Jacob Smith (215) each pinned their opponents in the first period, making the team score 35-6. The Stars stumbled slightly, when Isaac El-Shahat was pinned in the heavyweight division. Neither team had a wrestler at 106lbs, and Jaxsyn Mathews received a forfeit at 113lbs. Cale Scagnoli (120) battled his opponent into the third period, before securing a fall for the victory. Jacob Anderson received a forfeit at 126lbs. Isaiah Garland finished things off for the Stars with a third period pin at 132lbs. The Stars will be back in action at home on Thursday, January 23, 2025. The evening will be a big one as the wrestling team will celebrate 50 years of wrestling at Western Boone by hosting the Jr. High opener immediately prior to the varsity meet against in-county rival, the Lebanon Tigers. Many Webo wrestling alumni will be in attendance and youth wrestlers will be recognized along with the Senior members of the wrestling team. Festivities will start promptly at 5:45pm.
