On Tuesday, January 17, 2023, the Western Boone wrestling team hosted the Gophers of Clinton Prairie. Time was taken at the beginning of the evening to recognize the three seniors on the team, Ethan Williams, Trevor Weakley, and Evan Trent. The three have been involved with Western Boone Wrestling since elementary school and have developed into valuable leaders on the team. Weakley was also recognized for having achieved over 100 career victories. Weakley hit the milestone over the Christmas break. As a team, WeBo dominated the Gophers, winning the dual meet 72-12. The evening started off at 182 pounds. Ethan Williams set the tone early with a 32-second fall over his opponent. Western Boone then gave up a forfeit at 195 pounds before Wyatt Dickey (220) and Joshua Dickey (285) came out and pinned their opponents in less than a minute each. At 106 pounds, Isaac Moore received a forfeit. Jacob Anderson (113) fought hard, but was unable to overcome a tough opponent, losing by a first period fall. Isaiah Garland (120) avenged the loss in a high scoring match that saw 32 points get scored before Garland settled things for good with a third period pin. Lincoln Rose (126) then received a forfeit for the Stars. Trey Fuston (132) managed to score four takedowns on his way to pinning his opponent just before the second period buzzer. Next, Kameron Mikesell (138) proved he could get his own offense going as well before pinning his opponent in the first period. At 145 pounds, Mason Adams needed just 29 seconds to give the Stars another victory. Evan Trent (152) then took the mat and pinned his opponent in just over a minute. Jacob Smith (160) won his second match in a row, picking up a first period pin. Varsity action ended much the same as it started, with a pin by one of the senior leaders. As has often been the case this year, Trevor Weakley (170) also got the fastest win of the evening, needing a mere 26 seconds to achieve victory over his opponent. At the conclusion of the varsity competition, Aden Conner, Landon Humphreys, Braeden Mathews, and Heath Williams each wrestled an exhibition match. Humphreys was able to walk away with a dominate performance over his opponent, pinning him in just under one minute. On Thursday (1/19/2023), Western Boone will host the Lebanon Tigers. Thursday evening will also be youth night. The elementary aged club wrestlers for both Lebanon and Western Boone will face each other in a series of friendly match-ups. Western Boone’s junior high team will also open their season with a match-up against Clinton Central. The evening will be capped off with the varsity dual between Lebanon and Western Boone. Action will start at 6:00pm.
