7th and 8th Stars defeat Tigers in regular season finale

The boys 7th grade basketball team finished their season last night hosting county rival Lebanon Tigers. The Stars brought the intensity, forced turnovers and jumped out to an early lead. The Tigers fought their way back hitting several 3 pointers cutting the Stars lead to 16-13 at half. The second half was all Webo. The Stars shut them down defensively allowing only 9 points in the half, resulting in a 37-22 win. The Stars were lead in scoring by Carter Eckert 19, Carson Nicley 10, Levi Adkins 4, Sam Rausch and Dane Allen added 2 each. Levi Adkins and Sam Rausch dominated the boards all night. The B team also started out fast bringing the intensity with transition offense and jumping out to a 8-2 lead at half. Defensive breakdowns and turnovers allowed the Tigers to fight their way back and take the lead. The Stars and Tigers traded the lead several times coming down to the last possession, the Stars lose a tight one 17-18. The 8th grade Stars travelled to Lebanon to close out the regular season against the Tigers. Both teams started a little slow and wanted to see how each would attack each other. The half-ended tigers up 12-9. The second half the Stars started finding holes in their defense and found their shots. Stars fought back and took the game 29-28 to close out the season. Quinn Westerfeld led Stars with 13, Burke Cavins 11 and Owen Oakley 5. Nate Thompson and Reese Young control the pace and played defense. Evan Kiplinger had a solid defensive game and made some key rebounds. The Stars B team also closed out the season with a solid game and fought hard. All five starters scored and played very well. Lebanon made a late surge, but the Stars held them off for the win 29-23. Levi Jackson led the way with 8, Jackson Jones 6, Alex Velasquez 5, Brennan Bivens and Jacob Riner 4, Nate Thompson 2. Stars will play Lebanon again in opening games of SAC Tournament on Thursday at N. Montgomery.
