On Saturday, February 4, 2023, Western Boone took 10 wrestlers to North Montgomery to compete in the regional round of the state tournament. Isaac Moore (106), Jacob Anderson (113), Trey Fuston (132), Kameron Mikesell (138), Mason Adams (145), Evan Trent (152), Jacob Smith (160), Trevor Weakley (170), Ethan Williams (182), and Wyatt Dickey (220) made the trip and wrestled well in one of the toughest regionals in the state. Evan Trent and Ethan Williams both managed to capture fourth place and advance to the semi-state round. Trent secured his trip to semi-state by pinning his opponent from Lebanon in the third period. Williams punched his ticket by getting a second period fall over a wrestler from Westfield. Mason Adams and Trevor Weakley tried to mimic each other all day. They each went 2-1 on the day and managed to get third place and a trip to semi-state. Adams and Weakley each faced opponents from Fishers in their first matches, and each pinned their opponents in the first period. In their semi-final matches, they both scored the first takedown, but unfortunately both ended up getting pinned in the second period. Adams was defeated by Carmel and Weakley by Hamilton Southeastern. In the consolation finals, both Adams and Weakley won via convincing decisions. Adams defeated his opponent from Hamilton Southeastern 11-5. Weakley defeated a familiar foe from Zionsville, 9-2. Congratulations to Mason, Evan, Trevor, and Ethan on advancing to semi-state. Semi-state for the four grapplers will be held at New Castle on February 11, 2023. Wrestling will start at 9:00am.
