Stars storm back to top Sheridan

Things weren't looking great early for the Western Boone baseball team on Thursday evening against Sheridan. But after digging themselves a big hole, the Stars found a way to get out of it and get a thrilling win. Sheridan led 7-1 after four innings, but the Stars scored eight runs over the final three innings to win 9-8 and improve to 5-3 on the year. Sheridan went up 3-0 in the first inning, getting three singles and two walks to grab the lead. After the the Stars went down 1-2-3 in the second, Sheridan added two unearned runs to make it 5-0 after two. Western Boone got a run back in the third thanks to a sacrifice fly from Gavin Hawkins, but Sheridan got a 2-out single in the fourth to make it 7-1. The Stars got an unearned run in the fifth to start their comeback. Sheridan loaded the bases with one out in the bottom half of the inning, but couldn't get a run across. In the top of the sixth, Western Boone loaded the bases with no outs thanks to a Brennan Kopriva walk, a Luke Wirey hit by pitch and a Cole Wiley walk. Jake Smith followed with a 2-run single to make it 7-4. Owen Kiplinger's ground out made it 7-5, and Hawkins followed with another run-scoring ground out to make it 7-6. The Stars continued their comeback in the seventh. Luke Jackson was hit by a pitch and Carter Marcum followed with a single. Brennan Kopriva followed with a 2-run single to give Western Boone its first lead of the game. After a sacrifice bunt, Wiley drove in Kopriva with a ground out to make it 9-7. Sheridan added a run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but WeBo got a pop out to end the game. Brennan Kopriva was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Marcum, Smith and Kiplinger also had hits. Walker got the win, pitching two innings and allowing an unearned run. Wiley got the save, pitching the final .2 innings.
