The Western Boone varsity girls’ soccer team kicked off their season and the start of the Monon Athletic Conference (MAC) play Thursday evening hosting the Southmont Mounties, who entered the contest already 1-1. The Mounties struck in the opening 8 minutes off a counterattack to take a 1-0 lead, but the Stars were spirited and evened the match with 27’ remaining in the half. For the Stars, Clara Stanfield assisted fellow captain Grace Maners who scored just inside the penalty box. In the second half, the Stars continued to give good effort but weren’t able to maintain their defensive quality and conceded a corner kick goal with 32’ remaining, a score from a cross at 19’ remaining and finally a shot from distance at the end of the match to close scoring at 4-1. WeBo returns to play on Tuesday, 8/26/26 when they travel to Cascade for another MAC match-up.
