The Western Boone Jr. High Blue Stars baseball squad saw their first action of the season in a doubleheader this past Saturday, squaring off against the North Putnam Cougars. The Cougars took the first game of the twin billing, but the Stars fought back to win the second game in thrilling fashion, splitting the series at one a piece. Aiden Lester started both games on the mound and pitched great, striking out 5 batters, while holding the Cats at bay to the tune of 1 run across 2 innings of work in the game 2 victory. Noah Cole also pitched well with 4 strikeouts of his own, nailing down the WEBO win. Although the defense had some miscues early on, they rounded into form with some strong defensive plays by Destin Caraballo, Josiah Williamson, and Levi Hayden. The offense came out swinging and did a fantastic job putting the ball in play, while collectively only striking out once in the first game and 3 times in the second. The Stars also accumulated 8 walks across the two contests. Charlie Jones was a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate with 2 runs scored. Noah Cole also had a big day at the plate going 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored and a walk. Masyn Hoskins drew a pivotal walk in game 2, eventually going on to score the game-winning run and walk it off for WEBO with a final score of 6-5. The Blue Stars will take to the field again at home on May 1st against Clinton Prairie. Come on out and cheer them on! WeBo RED played at Crawfordsville Wednesday night in a high scoring night that saw the Stars pull out a 14 to 9 victory! The team had three players (Easton, Manson and Carson) with 2 hits and Young and Oakley putting down two outstanding bunts. Kiplinger, Westerfield and Easton pitched well and continue to improve on the mound.
