Stars split series and take down #1 Tri-West in varsity softball

Game 1 Western Boone Varsity Stars watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 5-1 loss to Tri-West Hendricks Varsity Bruins on Saturday. Tri-West Hendricks Varsity Bruins scored on a double by Kendall Williams, a double by Ava Sullivan, and a single by McKenzie Walters in the first inning. Tri-West Hendricks Varsity Bruins opened up scoring in the first inning, when Williams doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. Audrey Lowry led the Tri-West Hendricks Varsity Bruins to victory in the circle. The ace allowed six hits and one run over seven innings, striking out eight. Gabby Lewis toed the rubber for Western Boone Varsity Stars. The bulldog went six innings, allowing five runs on ten hits, striking out three and walking zero. Emma Shirley led Western Boone Varsity Stars with three hits in four at bats. Tri-West Hendricks Varsity Bruins tallied ten hits in the game. Sullivan, Lowry, and Walters each had multiple hits for Tri-West Hendricks Varsity Bruins. Sullivan went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Tri-West Hendricks Varsity Bruins in hits. Tri-West Hendricks Varsity Bruins didn't commit a single error in the field. Williams had eight chances in the field, the most on the team. Game 2 Western Boone Varsity Stars stole the lead late and defeated Tri-West Hendricks Varsity Bruins 8-7 on Saturday. Western Boone Varsity Stars trailed 7-6 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Kale Conner singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs. There was plenty of action on the basepaths as Western Boone Varsity Stars collected 11 hits and Tri-West Hendricks Varsity Bruins had 13. In the second inning, Tri-West Hendricks Varsity Bruins got their offense started when Danica James hit a solo homer. Tri-West Hendricks Varsity Bruins scored three runs in the third inning. The big inning for Tri-West Hendricks Varsity Bruins came thanks to singles by Michelle Wildman and Kendall Williams and a groundout by McKenzie Walters. Emily Conyer was credited with the victory for Western Boone Varsity Stars. The hurler surrendered one run on three hits over four innings, striking out one and walking one. Lainey Price was in the pitcher's circle for Tri-West Hendricks Varsity Bruins. The bulldog went five and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on 11 hits and striking out four. Natalie Tharp threw one-third of an inning out of the bullpen. Mickayla Naanos started the game for Western Boone Varsity Stars. Naanos went three innings, allowing six runs on ten hits and walking one Western Boone Varsity Stars tallied 11 hits in the game. Gabby Lewis and Conner each had multiple hits for Western Boone Varsity Stars. Lewis went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Western Boone Varsity Stars in hits. Friday - Western Boone Varsity Stars fell to McCutcheon Varsity Mavericks 11-10 on Friday on the final play of the game. The game was tied at ten with McCutcheon Varsity Mavericks batting in the bottom of the eleventh when Mackenzie Standerfer singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. Despite the loss, Western Boone Varsity Stars did collect 11 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, McCutcheon Varsity Mavericks had 15 hits on the way to victory. Western Boone Varsity Stars opened up an early lead in the third inning when Makenzie Amich's sac fly scored one run for Western Boone Varsity Stars. In the bottom of the seventh inning, McCutcheon Varsity Mavericks tied things up at ten when Kaidynn Peckinpaugh doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs. Western Boone Varsity Stars tallied six runs in the fourth inning. Gabby Lewis, Mickayla Naanos, Morganne Grant, and Kale Conner each drove in runs during the inning. McCutcheon Varsity Mavericks scored three runs in the seventh inning. The big inning for McCutcheon Varsity Mavericks came thanks to a single by Molly Davis and a double by Peckinpaugh. Katie Rose got the start for McCutcheon Varsity Mavericks. Rose allowed one hit and three runs over two innings, striking out four. Lewis started the game for Western Boone Varsity Stars. The bulldog surrendered six runs on 11 hits over seven and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one. Naanos threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. Western Boone Varsity mStars tallied 11 hits in the game. Emily Conyer, Naanos, Amich, and Grant all managed multiple hits for Western Boone Varsity Stars. Conyer went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Western Boone Varsity Stars in hits. McCutcheon Varsity Mavericks saw the ball well today, racking up 15 hits in the game.
