The Stars Varsity Baseball team played host to Danville in the first of two conference games this week against the Warriors. The Stars continued their debilitating habit of starting slow, allowing 3 runs in the first inning after starting pitcher Bryce Kopriva retired the first two batters of the game. Two infield hits followed by a throwing error, then a Danville double, had the Stars down early. Danville pitched their ace and he finished the complete game and only allowed one hit each to Hawkins, Marcum, Jackson, and Wiley. Marcum’s ball was a loud double off the wall in the seventh inning. Kopriva made an early exit with tenderness in his arm but Gavin Hawkins did a nice job giving the Stars a chance and keeping the game tight. The season is half over with tonight’s game. The Stars are four wins ahead of where they were at this point last season. However, the coaches believe the group is capable of much more and have really challenged the guys to dig deep and finally put a complete game together - they’ll have a chance to respond on Wednesday night at Danville.
