Stars play long ball to defeat Bulldogs

Clinton Central Varsity Bulldog scored three runs in the first inning, but Western Boone Varsity Stars still won 12-5 on Thursday. The big inning for Clinton Central Varsity Bulldog came thanks to a single by Bridgette Royer and a double by Carly Davison. In the first inning, Western Boone Varsity Stars got their offense started when Emily Conyer tripled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. Clinton Central Varsity Bulldog evened things up at four in the bottom of the second inning when Kortney Surber singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Western Boone Varsity Stars pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning. In the third Mickayla Naanos hit a solo homer, Morganne Grant hit a solo homer, and Emma Shirley singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run. Gabby Lewis was the winning pitcher for Western Boone Varsity Stars. The fireballer surrendered two runs on five hits over six innings, striking out 11 and walking one. Emily Kocher toed the rubber for Clinton Central Varsity Bulldog. The bulldog lasted two innings, allowing five hits and five runs while striking out three and walking zero. Landree Whiteman threw five innings in relief. Naanos started the game for Western Boone Varsity Stars. The ace lasted one inning, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out one and walking zero Western Boone Varsity Stars smacked three home runs on the day. Grant had a dinger in the third inning. Shirley went yard in the fifth inning. Naanos put one out in the third inning. Western Boone Varsity Stars tallied 18 hits. Naanos, Shirley, Makenzie Amich, Lewis, Dottie Wilson, and Kale Conner all had multiple hits for Western Boone Varsity Stars. Amich, Shirley, and Naanos each collected three hits to lead Western Boone Varsity Stars. Western Boone Varsity Stars stole five bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Shirley led the way with two. Clinton Central Varsity Bulldog saw the ball well today, racking up nine hits in the game. Surber, Royer, and Davison each racked up multiple hits for Clinton Central Varsity Bulldog. Surber went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Clinton Central Varsity Bulldog in hits.
