Cathedral is ranked second in the Indiana Football Coaches Association Class 5A preseason poll behind defending 5A state champ New Palestine. Ben Davis is 13th in the IFCA Class 6A preseason poll. The Irish defeated the Giants 8-0 to start last season, scoring the game’s only points late in the first quarter on Cam Koers’ 26-yard touchdown pass to Owen Peterson. Cathedral has won eight consecutive season-opening games. After winning its first outing for 20 consecutive years from 1999 to 2018, Ben Davis has lost six of its last seven week one games. The two schools played for the first time in 1955. Cathedral won its first five games against Ben Davis and six of the first seven meetings. The Giants then won 15 straight matchups with the Irish, from 1988 to 2023, before Cathedral’s wins in 2024 and 2025. The Fighting Irish are 4-10 all-time in games played at BD’s Giant Stadium.
