Despite losing their first two games, the Fighting Irish are still ranked #253 nationally by High School Football America. The Bombers are rated #133 in this week’s HSFA Top 300. In their last outing, the Irish led 13-7 at halftime on the Butler University campus against Loyola Academy from Wilmette, Illinois. However, the Ramblers scored 19 third-quarter points on the way to a 33-19 victory. Senior receiver Evan Johnson led Cathedral, catching nine passes for 163 yards including a 55-yard touchdown reception. Safety Caden Nelson recorded 18 tackles. St. Xavier was the Ohio Division I (largest class) playoff runner-up in 2025. The Bombers are 1-1 so far this season, losing their season opener at Lakota West 20-7, but bouncing back last week to defeat Huber Heights Wayne 35-7 on the road. The St. X offense is led by senior quarterback Aidan Newdigate who is responsible for all six Bomber touchdowns this season, throwing for three to receiver Logan Von Holle and rushing for three more. St. Xavier defeated the Fighting Irish last season 24-6. Xavier Dangerfield rushed for 101 yards on 15 attempts, while the Irish defense limited the Bombers to just 62 yards on the ground. Cathedral is 3-19 all-time against St. X and has a 1-10 mark in games played in Cincinnati with the only win there over the Bombers coming in the year 2000.
