Cathedral bowling’s historic season rolls on! The Irish have advanced to the Crawfordsville Regional after a second-place finish in the Indy West Sectional Championship. Declan Sweeney ‘25 became the first Irish bowler to ever win a singles title, defeating teammate Sam Jones ‘28 247-224 in the championship match. Jones’ run came to an end in the title match after defeating the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds to face top-seeded Sweeney in the championship. Along with Sweeney and Jones, Nolan Lumsdon ‘25 advanced to regionals, meaning the team and three individual bowlers will continue their seasons next Saturday in Crawfordsville. Alex Jones ‘25 was named captain of the Indy West boys team as the top point-scorer in the regular season, posting a league-high 221.8 average. Grace Zuerner ‘27 earned all-conference honors on the girls side and qualified for the regional after finishing in the top five at sectionals. Sweeney, Lumsdon, and Sam and Alex Jones will lead the boys team at regionals along with Christian Heuer ‘26, Cole Laniohan ‘26, Connor Hedge ‘25 and Seth Warren ‘25. Regionals take place on Saturday, January 25 at 8 a.m. from Plaza Lanes in Crawfordsville. Our girls bowling team also had a fantastic season, finishing at sectionals in the top five.
