Lake Central Boys Rally Past Gary West Side to Move to 2–0 Lake Central boys’ basketball showcased resilience Tuesday night, erasing a sluggish start and storming back for an impressive home victory over Gary West Side Leadership Academy to move to 2-0 on the young season. The opening quarter belonged to the visiting Cougars, who raced out to a 17–7 lead by capitalizing on early LC miscues and cold shooting. Despite the slow start, the Indians settled in during the second period. Lake Central chipped away at the deficit, trimming the margin to just two points by halftime. After the break, LC completely shifted the tone of the game. The Indians controlled the tempo, locked down defensively, and steadily wore down West Side. By the time the fourth quarter arrived, the momentum had fully swung. That final frame belonged to Jakob Billmeyer. Billmeyer ignited Lake Central’s decisive surge with a high-energy sequence that electrified the gym. First came a steal and dunk. Seconds later, he jumped another passing lane for a steal and layup. He then buried a corner three, blowing the game open and sending the Indians on their way to a dominant 19–4 fourth quarter and a 33–15 second-half advantage. Billmeyer finished with 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. Matching his scoring output, Noah Enyeart posted 16 points, pulled down 4 rebounds, and grabbed a pair of steals while helping spur LC’s comeback. With the win, Lake Central begins the season 2–0. The Indians return to action Friday night when they host Culver Academies, where we will recognize our middle school basketball programs from Kahler, Clark, and Grimmer.
