Wrestling DAC Championships Highlight By 6-Top 3 Finishers: Cruz Orueta Finishes 2nd The Indians wrestled the DAC Championships at Portage on Saturday. Lake Central finished in 6th place as a team in the difficult field. Yomaniel Velazquez Perez finished in 4th place at 175 and Chris Wartman finished in 6th at 157. Five Indians' wrestlers finished in 3rd place on the day: 106 Caine Renko; 120 Gabe Ruano; 126 Luke Nied; 132 Aidan Witry; 285 Jake Luedtke Cruz Orueta, 113 lb class, finished as the Runner-Up falling to Sam Westfall 9-4. The Indians will host Portage in senior night tonight. Girls' Swimming DACs Highlighted by Freshman Abigail Campbell's Two Championship Swims LC finished in 4th place overall as a team at Valparaiso on Saturday for the DAC Team and Individual Championships: 1. Chesterton 518 2. Valparaiso 433 3. Crown Point 364 4. LC 292 5. Portage 151 6. La Porte 148 7. Merrillville 70 8. Michigan City 57 The Indians finished top 4 in all the relays: 3rd place in the 200 Medley Relay; 4th place in both the 200 Free and 400 Free. Kaylie Schaffenberger had a 6th place swim in the 200 Free. Taylor Jones finished in 7th in the 100 Free; Morgan Hampton was 8th in the 100 Backstroke; and Mackenzie Conrath touched home in 6th in the 100 Breaststroke. The Lady Indians had 2 Championship swims, both achieved by Abigail Campbell. Campbell finished in 1st in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:04.74 and won the 500 Free by more than 6 seconds (5:06.21). LC will host Munster on Thursday. Boys' Basketball Splits the Weekend Losing at Portage and Defeating Andrean at Home After a weekend split the Indians are now 8-4 overall and 1-1 in the DAC. The boys' went on the road on Friday and lost to unbeaten Portage by a score of 80-63. Jakob Billmeyer scored 15, Noah Enyeart 13, David Aguilera 12, and Christian Martinez 9 in the effort. The boys played host to Andrean Saturday and righted the ship, winning 47-36. LC was lead by Enyeart who had 22 point and 14 rebounds (7 offensive). Aguilera chipped in 9 and Billmeyer 8. Evan Geller contributed 7 rebounds. The Indians will host Valparaiso in a DAC match-up Friday. Girls' Basketball Falls to John Hersey in the Darrel Kipp Hoopfest The Indians ran into a buzzsaw on Monday at Benet Academy in the Darrel Kipp Hoopfest. LC played John Hersey and lost 46-18. The Indians are now 11-10 overall and will host the top DAC team in Valparaiso on Thursday.
