Boys' Volleyball Crowned Sectional Champs The boys' volleyball team went back-to-back as Sectional Champions in the IHSAA Sectional hosted by Munster last week. In Saturday's semi-final match the Indians took on the Illiana Christian Vikings. This was a repeat of last year's dynamic 5-set match. This year the Indians were dominant and won in straight sets. S1 S2 S3 Final Illiana 15 17 22 0 LC 25 25 25 3 In the Sectional Championship, LC took on the host Mustangs and was even more dominant cruising to a straight-set sweep. In the first two years of the IHSAA state tournament, LC has won both sectionals. The Indians advance to the Valparaiso Regional on Saturday: They will take on Penn in the first semi-final game at 10 am. The winner will take on the winner of Andrean and Kouts at 4 pm. S1 S2 S3 Final Munster 17 15 14 0 LC 25 25 25 3 Boys' Golf Win Uebele Invitational on Friday and the KV Invite on Saturday On Friday the boys' golf team traveled to La Porte's Beechwood Golf Course to take part in the 90th Annual Uebele Invitational: This is the longest running high school golf tournament in the country. Twenty-four teams from the North took part in the invite and LC earned the orange jacket prize by firing a team best 303 score. They defeated second place Northridge by 9 strokes. Cole Sullivan fired a 74 to lead LC. Dru Barkauskas shot a 75; Cooper Kroncke 76; Logan Carroll 78; and Yianni Boufis 87. On Saturday, the boys' team was even more impressive shooting a season best 293 at the Kankakee Valley Invitational at Chesapeake Run golf course. The Indians won the 20 team field with second place falling 25 strokes behind. Cole Sullivan won low medalist (70), Logan Carroll finished in 2nd place (72), and Dru Barkauskas 5th (75) out of 100 golfers. Cooper Kroncke shot a 76, and Yianni Boufis shot a 78. Baseball Hosts 4th Annual Regional Baseball Classic Lake Central, along with Munster and Crown Point, joined forces to host the 4th Annual Regional Baseball Classic. Ten teams participated and each had the opportunity to play 3 games in the 2-day classic. In game 1, Lake Central lost to Lafayette Harrison by a score of 18-6. Brayden Walls and Jake Forystek had 2 hits each. Austin Brower drove in 3 with his first HR. Marc Passo was the pitcher of record tossing 3 1/3 innings. In game 2 Friday night, LC took on the Illiana Christian Vikings and used a 5-run fifth inning to win 9-6. Anthony Sanchez was the winning pitcher for LC. The Indians managed just 4 hits but manufactured runs from patient at-bats and drawing 13 walks. Brayden Walls drove in 3 runs. On Saturday, LC defeated Highland thanks to a 4-run 3rd inning. LC won this one 4-2. Justin Makowski pitched well tossing 5 2/3 innings of 3-hit ball. Josh Sautter earned the 1-plus inning save. Parker Robinson pounded 3 hits, including a triple. Robinson had 3 of LC's 4 hits. The Indians host Merrillville tonight for senior night. Softball Falls to Nationally Ranked Marist The Indians record moved to 25-1 on the season with their first loss. This was an epic showdown of the best Indiana and the best Illinois has to offer. Marist prevailed 2-1 in 9 innings. Maddie Such stole the show in this won throwing 8 1/3 innings of 5-hit ball. She fanned 11 Marist hitters and allowed just 5 hits. Such also hit a HR with one out in the 7th to send the game to extra innings. Lexi Iwema, Tegan Tripp, and Madi Wainright also added singles. LC will host their final DAC game of the season against Valparaiso tonight. Tonight's game is their annual cancer awareness tonight.
