The Lake Central girls' basketball team endured a long road trip to Manual High School in Peoria, IL over the Holiday break. Lake Central played 4 games and finished 3-1, which was good enough to be crowned the Manual Holiday Tournament Champions. Lake Central defeated Manual HS 44-26. Vanessa Wimberly and Ayla Krygier led the way with 16 points a piece. The Indians defeated Limestone 65-46 with a balanced attack. Krygier poured in a season high 24. Wimberly had 12, Bryn Leonard and Carolyn Archer had 9 each, and Bella Soria chipped in 8. The Indians fell to Pekin HS 52-36: Wimberly added 20 in this one and Krygier had 8. LC also defeated Springfield SE 69-47. Wimberly scored a career and tournament high 34 points in the victory. She was appropriately named the tournament Most Valuable Player. Wimberly and Krygier both earned All-Tournament Team recognition for their performances. On January 2nd, LC fell to power Homestead on the road in both the JV (36-12) and V (60-44) contest; however, this did not overshadow Vanessa Wimberly joining the 1000 point club. Vanessa is the 2,340th member in Indiana history. She is the 6th player in school history: 1978 Cindy Hines (1,078 points) 1987 Sharon Geary (1,267 points) 1995 Kristina Divjak (1,867 points) 1998 Kelly Komara (1,478 points) 2024 Aniyah Bishop (1,208 points) 2025 Vanessa Wimberly (1011 and counting) Wimberly and crew will look to add to this total over the course of the final 6 regular season basketball games and the IHSAA postseason. LC will host La Porte on Saturday.
