Weekend Update (4/12-4/13): B/G T/F Both Win the Woodrick and Softball Wins Horseshoe

V Volleyball--Marian Catholic Invitational The Lake Central's boys' volleyball team came into Friday's contest with seven straight wins, and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Bremen and Marian on Friday; they finished 2-1 with a loss to Homewood-Flossmoor. Saturday, the Indians finished 1-1 losing to Morton (IL) and beating Marian Catholic to finish 3rd overall. Yesterday, the boys traveled to LaPorte for another DAC match. They continued their winning streak in the DAC with a sweep over LaPorte 3-0. The JV won 2-0. The Indians were led by: Keri Conrath--17 kills Christian Czarnik--12 kills Brady Cook-- 28 assists Juan Flores-- 20 digs and 6 aces. LC will take on the Boone Grove Wolves Wednesday night on the road. Boys' Golf--HHS Invitational @ Coyote Crossing Lake Central opened the 2025 season in West Lafayette at Coyote Crossing Golf Club on Saturday. They finished in 5th place out of 18 teams. LC will host Munster and Highland in a triangular at Palmira GC on Wednesday. Kouts 6 The boys and girls track and field teams took part in the Ed Woodrick Track Invitational on Saturday. Both teams earned 1st place overall finishes in the 12 team field. In game 1, the Indians trailed 1-0 heading to the bottom of the 5th. The bats woke up as LC plated 3 in the 5th and 6 in the 6th to win convincingly. Grant Mercer was the pitcher of record throwing 3 innings and striking out 3. Zach Nikola fanned 5 and allowed 1 run in his 3 innings of relief. Offensively, Jake Figg had a 2 hit effort, and Keegan O'Bryan and Drew Kosteba each drove in 2. In game 2, LC plated 7 in the 2nd inning and cruised to a 10-4 victory over BNI. Ethan Chapman was the starter and Tyler Thuftedal earned the win in middle relief. Trevor Kubacki tossed 2 hitless and scoreless to close it out (he also doubled and drove in 2). Luke Halfeldt added 2 hits, and Ryder Fernandez, Drew Kosteba, and Dylan Hein also drove in 2. LC remained unbeaten on the young season and will host the history rich La Porte Slicers starting tonight. They defeated state ranked number 1 Center Grove in game 1. Maddie Such threw a complete game striking out 7. Taylor Schafer led the way with 2 hits and 2 RBIs; Kate Renschen also had 2 hits. In game 2, LC jumped out to a 12-0 lead and East Central scored 9 in the 4th and 5th combined to make it 12-9. The Indians responded with 5 over the last two innings and went on to win 17-13. Jada Lewis was the winning pitcher throwing 4 1/3. Such threw 2 2/3 relief. Lexi Iwema led the way on offense with 5 hits, including a triple and HR, and 4 runs. Izzy Calinski had 5 hits and scored 4 runs; she also homered and doubled. Renschen, Schafer (HR), and Madi Bickell had 3 hit efforts. Bickell homered and drove in 6. MaKayla Van Vossen also hit 1 of LC's 4 homeruns. In the Championship game, the Indians defeated the hosts. Such earned the win striking out 12. Kaitlyn Streiler homered and drove in 3 to lead LC. Tegan Tripp had 3 hits; Schafer had 2 doubles; and Van Vossen added 2 hits. LC will host Chesterton tonight.
