9/4-9/8 Update on LC Athletics: Highlighted by the Girls' Golf DAC Championship

Girls' Golf @ Culver vs Culver and Peru LC 328--Culver 374--Peru 402 Lake Central shot a 328 on Saturday and defeated Peru and Culver Academies in an 18 hole match at Culver Academies Golf Course (par 72). Allie Huppenthal 80; Victoria Schilling 94; Piper Urbanski 82;Maya Parks 85; Alex Schilling 81; Cora McCall 98; Payton Down 103 DAC CHAMPIONSHIPS @ Sand Creek Country Club The girls' golf team finished the regular season unbeaten and headed into the DAC Championships at Sand Creek Country Club yesterday with a chance for their second consecutive DAC title. LC was dominant yesterday beating the next closes team by 30 strokes. LC is up next against Munster and Highland tomorrow for senior night. FR/JV/V Football vs Portage FR--LC 24 Portage 14 The Indians freshman football team is now 3-0 as they defeated Portage on the road on Thursday 24-14. RJ Edwards had two touchdown and Leo Keelan caught a TD pass from Nathan Humyak. LC travels to Crown Point on Thursday. JV--LC 49 Portage 18 V--LC 26 Portage 0 The Indians punched in on their opening drive on a 15 yard touchdown pass from QB Cam Reddick to WR Frankie Verta and never looked back. LC's defensive effort was excellent, pitching a shutout against Portage. LC's second score came on a Reddick keeper from the 7. Then, kicker TJ Ohlenkamp connected on consecutive field goals from 24 and 37 yards out. A big Jacob Turley run from 34 yards sealed the deal for the Blue Indians 1st DAC victory of 2025. LC is now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the DAC. They'll face Crown Point on Friday in what will certainly be a packed house! NWI Times Article: https://www.nwitimes.com/sports/high-school/football/article_acba3616-d952-4421-9cc2-dae157be84ef.html Varsity Boys' Soccer @ Indiana/Kentucky Challenge LC 2 Trinity (KY) 3 LC 2 McCracken County 1 The Indians traveled to Reitz Memorial HS in Evansville to take part in the Friday/Saturday Indiana vs Kentucky Challenge. The Indians had a great weekend of soccer. They fell to nationally ranked #4 Trinity, also #1 in Kentucky, by a score of 3-2 in the Friday night match. The Indians fell behind 3-0 in this one but stormed back in the final 10 minutes of play. At the 74 minute mark Stelios Tsahas scored a goal, followed by Aleks Alavanja at the 77 minute mark. LC was victorious on Saturday against McCracken County, a top 25 team in KY. LC won 2-1 in this one after trailing 1-0. Ethan Terry found the back of the next twice in this one. After the weekend, the Indians are 5-1 overall. JV/V Soccer @ Michigan City JV--LC 9 MC 1 V--LC 9 MC 0 The Indians ran their record to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the DAC with a 9-0 victory on the road at Michigan City. Six different players found the back of the net for Lake Central: Ethan Terry (3 goals); George Karabatsos (2 goals); Ethan Brewer; Ayoub Hamed (2 goals); Alexavier Moreno; and Henry Ponnezhan. The JV got goals from Jonathan Estrada (3); Daniel Soria Jr (2); Aleks Damjanovic; Jack Thompson; John Bley; and Max Kaczmarczyk. Both teams are back in action against Portage on Wednesday. Boys' Tennis vs Crown Point LC 4 CP 1 Lake Central 4--Crown Point 1 Lake Central continued its winning ways on Thursday defeating Crown Point at home 4-1. The Indians were victorious at #2 singles as well as both doubles positions. The Indians finished 4th at the Macy Invite this weekend in a very talented field. Playing well for LC were: #1 Singles--Ethan Cordova & #2 Singles--Joe Devine--Both were 2-1 on the day and Both placed 5th. #3 Singles--Joe Rieger--was 2-1 on the day and placed 3rd. The Tribe had no trouble winning 3-0 to get back on track. The JV and Freshman both won their matches. The Indians are now 6-4 overall and 2-2 in the DAC. They'll host Michigan City in JV and Varsity only tonight. 9/4 @ 5p S1 S2 S3 Wins Lake Central 25 25 25 3 Portage 10 15 17 0 The Indians were led by: Kailey Skurka with 12 kills and 4 aces; Lexi Iwema with 5 kills and 6 aces (Lexi joined the 500 dig club and well as the 500 kill club); and Lilly Barth with 15 assists. Boys'/Girls' Cross County @ Lafayette Harrison Invite The girls' cross country team were runner-ups this weekend at The Harrison Invite. Varsity was led by Macey Thompson who battled until the finish line running a time of 17:24. She also set a new course record. The JV were champions scoring only 19 points; they were led by Marina Negrete who was the overall champion and ran a time of 20:58. The boys' team finished in 9th place overall. Ben Perschon was fantastic finishing in 2nd place overall, just 3 seconds out of 1st place.
