The Slicers traveled to Culver Academies to face a very large and deep opponent. The Slicers came out on top 94-85 in a nail biter that came down to the last two races. LaPorte opened the meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay with: Roman Garay (backstroke), James Quadlin (breaststroke), Cameron Hatala (butterfly), and Carson Retseck (freestyle). Retseck had a split of 22.64 seconds, a lifetime best relay split. James Quadlin then won the 200 Freestyle with a season best time of 1:59.44. Cameron Hatala won both the 200 Individual Medley by six seconds and 100 Breaststroke, out-touching teammate James Quadlin by a fraction of a second. Carson Retseck won the 50 Freestyle, missing his lifetime best by .03 seconds. Roman Garay had an amazing 100 Freestyle, breaking the 50 second barrier for the first time, clocking in at 49.67 seconds! Garay also won the 100 Backstroke with another best time, going 54.85 seconds. Right after that, Malachi Talbot had the race of a lifetime, turning on the speed at the end to win the 500 Freestyle in 5:48.08! The Slicers finished the meet with a win in the 400 Freestyle Relay behind: Retseck, Garay, Hatala and Quadlin. It was a really exciting meet. Every point counted. Some of our newer swimmers picked up crucial 4th and 5th place finishes to help the Slicers win. Kudos to Noah Waak, Aedan Bailey, Hugo Luna, Vijay Pillai, and Milo Jimenez. Everyone scored points tonight and every point was needed. The Slicers record climbs to 2-1. They host Lowell, Oregon Davis and Calumet this Saturday in a Quad meet. Always proud. Go Slicers!
