LaPorte Slicers Show Grit and Promise at Weekend Tournament The LaPorte Slicers wrestling team battled through a challenging and rewarding weekend, showing resilience, growth, and plenty of fight on the mat. Competing against tough competition, the Slicers proved they belong and gave fans plenty to be excited about as the season continues. Day One: Team Duals The opening day featured team duals, where LaPorte finished with a 2–3 record overall. The Slicers started strong with two convincing victories, showcasing depth and intensity across the lineup. LaPorte dominated North Montgomery with a 59–18 win. The Slicers followed up with an impressive 76–6 victory over North Putnam. Despite facing strong opponents later in the day, LaPorte continued to compete hard in every match. The Slicers fell to Whiteland (48–25), Alexandria (61–15), and Franklin Central (59–18). While the results didn’t all go LaPorte’s way, the effort, toughness, and experience gained against quality programs will pay dividends moving forward. Day Two: Individual Tournament Success Day two shifted to individual competition, and the Slicers rose to the occasion with several standout performances and podium finishes. Christian Ford earned a 2nd-place finish, going 7–2 over the weekend and improving his season record to 23–7. Porter Ivankovig continued his outstanding season with a 3rd-place finish, going 8–2 and moving to an impressive 29–3 on the year. Grant Uhlemann also claimed 3rd place, finishing 7–3 on the weekend and improving to 23–9 overall. Justin Dieken battled his way to 5th place, going 7–3 and pushing his season record to 22–10. Matthew Kurzydlo earned a 5th-place finish as well, going 6–4 and improving to 17–15 on the season. Christian Siebert showed determination throughout the weekend, placing 6th and moving his season record to 11–19. These individual results highlight the depth and determination within the LaPorte lineup, as multiple wrestlers stepped up and competed deep into the tournament. Looking Ahead The Slicers will look to build on this momentum as they return to action this Wednesday, January 7th, when they hit the road to face Lake Central at 6:30 p.m. With continued hard work and confidence from this weekend’s performances, LaPorte is poised for a strong stretch ahead.
